It is over (so to speak)

Congratulations to the winners:

1) Paul - 1776
2) Missy - 1772
3) Sarah - 1662

It was very exciting. I was watching the game with Missy and had Paul on MSN Chat. Missy had 11 players and Paul had 9. Missy unleashed her WMDs while Paul was trying to track the scores. It seemed to go back and forth with each wicket. By Paul's estimate they were tied at the end of the game. The final score showed Paul to be the winner. If Gilchrist had made 1 more run the game would have gone the other way.

This is the closest finish we have ever had in the Robinson World Cup. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.

The game itself was pretty good even though it was shortened by rain and ended in the dark. Australia set a formidable target for Sri Lanka who were on track to beat it until Sangakara and Jayasuraya went out. There was a lot of good cricket and it was fun to watch, which is all we can ask for from a final (well, except for Australia winning.)

Here is the final worm.

Other notable events: Katy made a valiant effort to catch up with catherine but didnt quite make it even though her captain finally came through for her. Henry had just enough point to make it into the top 6 and knock me back down to 7th. Thanks a lot.

Moira stuck to her guns for a solid 12 place finish and so earns the sweaty world cup teddy bear of 12th place-ness. Paul get the shirt of first place-ness. Missy came in second and has requested the third place prize of the hat coz she doesn't know what a cricket ball is and so, if that is ok with you Sarah, she wins the hat and you win the cricket ball.

Also, we bought a floating trophy of a signature cricket bat that will go to Paul as the winner. I will get his name put on it, and in 4 years time it will go to the next winner of the Robinson World Cup. It shall hence forth (I always wanted to say that) be known as the Sweaty Robinson World Cup Trophy of Winningness. Here is a picture of the bat and the bear.

Thank you to everyone for taking part and getting into the spirit of the game. It has made the world cup a lot more interesting and exciting for me than it would have been and I think it has done a good job of getting everyone together to enjoy it even though we are all separated on various continents. We will do it again in 4 years time, so start studying up already!

Love,
Michael

Well, it has been one hell of a ride!! I have thoroughly enjoyed this competition and would just like to say a few parting words of my own.

Dearest Michael, thank you for putting this all together - it was really the best way to teach me the game of cricket. I can see why you love it so much. And thank you for losing to me, I like to beat you at stuff.

Catherine, My Mom told me I should be a submissive daughter-in-law and should have let you win. I was pretty sure you wouldn't respect that much, so I gave it my all and congrats to you for kicking my butt.

Mom, as always you have set the bar high and I am proud of you.

Moira, I admire the loyalty.

Paul, well, ok, you did good.

And the rest of you....Thanks for a great competition! What Fun!!

So anyone up for the Womens World Cup Soccer in September?????

Paul, Well done young man! Michael and I were on the edge of our seats all afternoon.
Tomorrow it's going to be so dull. No blog, no competition, no great humor, no cricket!
I'm up for the Women's World Cup, Katy. When is it, and where are the finals? Maybe we could see some games?
My love to all.

And from me, hearty 'congratulations' to Paul, Missy and Sarah for a game well played - what fun yesterday's game was and how interesting that it was so close at the end.

Thanks, Michael, for organising it all. It really gave us something to look forward to every day - I don't know about the rest of you, but the first thing I did in the mornings before work was look at the website and the blog. It was great having contact with everybody and swapping comments and insults. All with good humour, of course.

Moira, if I had known about the sweaty bear award, I would have competed the other way!! I agree with Katy, your loyalty was total. Missy says she would now like to meet you so we are going to have to organise a family reunion sometime, somewhere. Nice to see you last night, Missy.

Sandi, your Sri Lankans played well yesterday - how did your parallel competition go?

Janet and Graeme, nice to know I have company in the middle somewhere - which letter will you choose next time, Graeme? I think we will all have a different strategy next time (except for those who seem to have mastered it already).

Katy, I respect your passion and enthusiasm for a game that is so new to you - thanks for all the fun we had.

And, Henry, well done yesterday. I know you also had enormous fun with it all and good luck in four years time.

Now, what was that about the soccer?

Sorry to be the last to comment, but I've been out all day at a horse show, where some of my Reiki clients (horses and humans) were competing.

So I am duly sweaty and covered in horse slobber and hay - all the better to appreciate a sweaty teddy bear. (Dare I ask who made the bear sweaty?)

Can you believe that there were an Australian and a Pakistan gymkhana team present yesterday? The jokes from the grandstand were apparently quite savage.

Congratulations Paul! Always knew you could do it. And ditto to Missy and Sarah - and every one else who played.

Thanks, Michael, for organising it all. Great way for the family ties to stay tied.

It would be great to meet you, Missy - and Bob. Maybe we should do a camping trip in the African bush together some time? Cath would just love that! She really enjoys the bits where there are no flush toilets.

And yes, indeed, let's do this again soon.
