Most exciting game so far!

Wow! I watched the England-Windies game and that was the most exciting game of the tournament so far! West Indies set up a good score of 300 with Gayle and Samuels each contributing a lot of runs quickly. England came in and, like Catherine said, Vaughn had a his first good knock of the competition (see Catherine's worm for details.) Pieterson and Nixon looked like they would maintain the required 9.5 run rate to win the game. Pieterson scored his hundred in 98 ball with a big 6. He then went out bowled by Taylor very next ball and I screamed. The notorious Plunket went out soon afterwards. England needed 48 off 36 ball to win and the West Indies looked like they were going to win. Nixon managed to keep things going, picking up where Pieterson left off and put England back in the driving seat.

Nixon managed to get the final over down to 4 required from 6 balls. When Nixon was bowled by one of Bravo's excellent slower deliveries it was down to Broad and Jimmy Anderson to find three from four balls. Off the penultimate delivery Lara, in his final gesture as an international player, brought the field in and Broad, at the opposite end of his career, hit a one over cover to win the game. Phew! I was on the edge of my seat for the last 15 overs of the game. Excellent stuff.

Here is the worm:

Things are heating up at the top, Sarah kinda pounced as Missy and Paul too a bit of a break, preparing their troops for the final 3 game showdown. Catherine made a last minute surge with her captain Vaughn and Henry came up nicely too. The rest of us just keep ticking along listening to Katy swear at Gayle.

Oh, and Graeme has reached a score of Eleventy One.

See you all on Tuesday.
Michael

What to do? What to do??

There is a problem developing and I’m not sure what to do! I hope you can help, give some advice or guidance or whatever. It started awhile ago. When we had been away she would immediately rush to her computer on returning home. Then things escalated to the point of crashing through the door, knocking me out of the way to get to the computer. Out of her computer room would come sighs, groans, clapping of hands, all sorts of exclamations not to be repeated.

About the same time she started keeping lists and crossing things out and making new lists. This also escalated to the point of sitting for hours at her table erasing things and adding things and the piles of paper grew to cover the whole table. At one point I had to go out and buy more paper. Lately when I go to bed she is just sitting there, hunched over the pile of paper mumbling. I can’t make out what she says but it sounds similar to the things she says in bed.

This is another concern that started recently. She has started to talk in her sleep. I can make out things like “4 points”,“ 3 points”, ”Captain”, “A player”, “B player”. I’m not sure what these mean but then there is a long list of incomprehensible names. Names I have never heard before. Sometimes she wakes up with a start and shouts “the team is hidden”, what ever that means.

I am getting concerned. The rush to the computer is getting more violent, the nights hunched over the table are getting longer, and the talking and shouting are getting louder and more frequent.

What to do? Oh what to do?

If you can help let me know,
Katy’s father

Bob is referring to Missy here, Katy is not losing her mind that badly yet.

It seems to me, Bob, that you should take Missy away for the week - to a nice peaceful place in the mountains, say, where there is only grizzly bear and no television, mobile phone, or Internet reception. A good day to go would be Tuesday, in the morning. And a good day to come back would be Sunday, in the late afternoon.

Thanks Moria that is a wonderful idea. Missy likes the mountains, is not scared of bears and I will be able to go next week through the week-end. I’ll let you know how things turn out.

And to think we've been married for 45 years....

Oh dear! I am terribly worried about you both. I put it all down to global warming, Bob. The main thing is to separate your plastic from your paper - that helps to keep the temperature down (they tell me). Of course, should the temperature go down too much, you just mix them up again. This should calm Missy down. Just don't throw the paper containing her lists away!

Maybe a visit to that beautiful Golden Gate Bridge will help - hope it isn't under the mist. Don't worry Missy - you can be sure that Moira is getting just as excited about the team that she supports - and don't mention Australia.

The bottom line is:
I am going to win!!!

I thought Moira’s suggestion was a good one. You wouldn’t believe the reaction. I will spare you the details but it was beyond anything I had imagined. I now see that there must be something special about this coming week and it causes me to wonder if people are just playing with me. I had hoped folks would offer sincere advice and guidance. I’m sure global warming has nothing to do with these strange circumstances since it all started a short time ago. If I were to try the bridge idea it will have to be after this coming week-end because I would not want to suffer such a reaction again.
